Australian Governor-General hails Vietnamese peacekeepers' contributions
HÀ NỘI — Australian Governor-General David Hurley praised the Vietnamese blue beret force’s contributions and stressed the meaning of the Việt Nam-Australia cooperation in the UN's peacekeeping mission when he and President Võ Văn Thưởng visited the headquarters of the Việt Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations in Hà Nội on Tuesday.
Hurley, in Hà Nội for a State visit, affirmed that Australia wishes to continue to work closely with and support Việt Nam in this field.
President Thưởng shared the Australian Governor-General's view on the significance of the two countries’ cooperation in UN peacekeeping activities, which contributes not only to strengthening their bilateral cooperation but also to world peace.
He thanked the Australian Government and wished to receive more assistance from the country for Việt Nam’s peacekeeping activities in the time to come.
Talking to officers who earlier served in Level- 二 Field Hospital in South Sudan, Hurley said the dispatch of forces to such a difficult location reflected Việt Nam’s efforts in participating in the mission.
Australia was one of the first countries to sign with Việt Nam a memorandum of understanding on peacekeeping cooperation in 二0 一 五. This laid a basis for practical and effective joint work between the two in the field, including English language training, as well as material and equipment support. — VNS
